Communication
Stay connected and up to date with all the latest news, updates, and important information from Woady Yaloak Primary School. Use these tools and programs to engage with your child’s learning, celebrate achievements, and be involved in our school community.
COMPASS
COMPASS is our main communication tool for families. The COMPASS app allows parents and carers to send and receive emails directly with teachers, stay up to date with important school dates and events through the calendar, and receive timely notifications and reminders. It is also the way families access school newsletters, classroom information, excursion details, provide attendance/decline responses, make payments, and submit student absences. This ensures parents are always informed and connected to their child’s learning and school life.
Woady Yaloak official whole-school Facebook page is used to share events, celebrate student achievements, and highlight special moments from across our campuses. The page is a great way for families to stay connected with school life and see the wonderful things happening in classrooms and the wider community. While Facebook is used to share celebrations and reminders, all important notices, student information, newsletters, excursion details, and absence reporting are managed through COMPASS. We encourage parents and carers to follow our Facebook page to keep up to date with school highlights and community events.
Whole School Newsletter
The Woady Yaloak Primary School Newsletter is distributed electronically to parents and carers every second Tuesday, on the odd weeks of each term, via email through COMPASS. The newsletter provides important updates, celebrations, and information for our school community. Teachers are encouraged to contribute by sharing student work, highlights of special events, or other noteworthy achievements. Contributions can be submitted through your Campus Head or the Principal.
Campus Newsletter
Each campus publishes its own newsletter every second Tuesday on the even weeks of each term. These newsletters share campus-specific updates, activities, and important information with families. A key focus of the campus newsletters is celebrating students and their achievements, with regular highlights of learning, events, and community involvement. Once a month, each campus also features a Woady Kid of the Month, recognising a student who has demonstrated our school values. Teachers are encouraged to contribute by sharing reports, student work, or special moments from their campus.
Parent Helpers
We greatly value the involvement of parents and carers in supporting student learning. Classroom teachers are encouraged to invite parents to assist with a range of activities such as excursions, swimming, reading, classroom programs, camps, and special events. Parents who volunteer must hold a current Working With Children Check and be recorded on our Staff Share Folder, as well as in the School Council minutes, to ensure appropriate coverage for both the school and the volunteer. We encourage families to take every opportunity to be involved in their child’s education, as this partnership helps strengthen the connection between home and school.
Reporting Student Achievement
We report student progress and achievement in a variety of ways to ensure parents and carers are well informed and engaged in their child’s learning:
-
- Meet & Greet (Term 1): Parents have the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher and attend an information session about expected learning for the year. This is also a chance to share any important information to support a positive start to the school year.
- Parent–Teacher Interviews (Term 3): Formal interviews are held at the beginning of Term 3, with bookings made online for parent convenience. Teachers are expected to be well prepared, with assessment results and student work samples available. If concerns require more time than the allocated 15-minute interview, parents are encouraged to arrange a separate appointment.
- Semester Reports (Terms 2 and 4): Comprehensive written reports are distributed at the end of each semester, clearly communicating student performance and achievement.
- Ongoing Communication: Teachers are encouraged to make timely contact with parents whenever issues arise, rather than waiting for the next formal reporting opportunity. Teachers are expected to be accessible to parents wishing to discuss their child’s progress. Open, respectful, and solution-focused communication is key to supporting positive outcomes for every student.
Privacy Legislation
We are committed to protecting the privacy of our students, families, and staff. To provide the best possible support for individual students, it is sometimes necessary to collect personal information. While much of this is managed through the General Office, it is important that all staff understand their responsibilities under privacy legislation. We are obliged to:
-
- Collect only the personal information that is necessary
- Inform parents and carers about why the information is being collected and how it will be used
- Use the information only for the purpose for which it was collected, to support student learning and wellbeing
- Keep all personal information safe and secure
- Share private information only when required to carry out professional responsibilities
Respecting and protecting privacy is essential to maintaining trust and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our school community.
Email Protocol
At Woady Yaloak Primary School, we value open, honest, and timely communication. We are committed to ensuring that all communication is respectful, considerate, and constructive. By following these principles, we aim to strengthen the positive partnership between families and the school, supporting both student wellbeing and learning. While email is a useful tool for communication between staff and parents, it also has limitations. To ensure clarity and consistency, Woady Yaloak Primary School has an Email Policy that outlines clear expectations for the appropriate use of email. This policy is designed to guide both staff and parents in using email effectively while maintaining professionalism and respect. All staff are required to refer to the full Email Policy.
