Numeracy
At Woady Yaloak Primary School, students engage in daily one-hour mathematics sessions. We offer a comprehensive program designed to provide all learners with a strong foundation in essential skills, strategies, and mathematical understandings.
Our lesson content is informed by a range of assessment methods, including formal testing, teacher observations, and pre- and post-assessments. This data-driven approach ensures that instruction is targeted to meet individual student needs.
We promote engagement through hands-on tasks, interactive games, and the purposeful use of technology. Activities are tailored to students’ ability levels and interests and are often connected to real-life contexts, helping students see the relevance and value of their learning.
As part of our commitment to supporting all learners, we implement the EMU (Extending Mathematical Understanding) Numeracy Intervention Program. This evidence-based program is designed to support students who require additional help in developing foundational numeracy skills. EMU focuses on early intervention through intensive, small-group instruction, enabling students to build confidence, overcome learning gaps, and achieve greater success in mathematics.
