SWPB – School Wide Positive Behaviour

At Woady Yaloak Primary School, we treat each other with respect, take responsibility for our learning and behaviour, and strive for excellence in a safe and inclusive school.

We believe school should be a happy and supportive place where every student’s needs are met. To build this positive climate, we use the School Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB) framework—an evidence-based, whole-school approach that promotes positive behaviour while preventing and addressing issues in a constructive way.

At WYPS, we provide positive feedback and explicitly teach appropriate behaviours that reflect our school values. We use a behaviour matrix to guide students in understanding and practising expected behaviours. Students who demonstrate our values are acknowledged and celebrated through Class Dojo points and rewards.

We believe students learn positive behaviour just as they learn to read—through explicit teaching, practice, feedback, and encouragement. By focusing on teaching and rewarding expectations, we create a calm, welcoming, and supportive environment for all.

Respectful Relationship Program

At Woady Yaloak Primary School, we believe that building resilience and learning to manage emotions, behaviour, and relationships are essential life skills that support student wellbeing and positive mental health. To foster these skills, we integrate social and emotional learning into our daily lessons and complement this with the Respectful Relationships program and the Open Parachute program in every classroom.

Open Parachute Program

At Woady Yaloak Primary School, we use the Open Parachute program to support the mental health and wellbeing of our students. Designed by psychologists and educators, the program helps children build resilience, confidence, and emotional awareness through age-appropriate lessons. It encourages students to talk openly about their feelings and challenges, while also promoting empathy, respect, and positive relationships. By teaching practical strategies to manage stress, friendships, and change, Open Parachute supports our whole-school values of respect, responsibility, and excellence, and equips students with lifelong skills to thrive both at school and beyond.

eSmart

At Woady Yaloak Primary School, we want our students to be safe, responsible, and respectful when using technology. To support this, we use the eSmart program, which helps children develop the knowledge and skills they need to navigate the online world safely and confidently. We use eSmart because it promotes safe and responsible digital practices, teaches students how to manage issues such as cyberbullying, online safety, and digital balance, builds awareness about the responsibilities and risks of using technology, supports families, staff, and students to create a consistent approach to online behaviour, and aligns with our school values of respect, responsibility, and excellence. By embedding eSmart across our school, we are equipping students to make positive, informed choices online and ensuring our digital spaces are safe and inclusive for everyone.

Weekly Integration of Programs

At Woady Yaloak Primary School, our staff deliver weekly lessons within their programs that integrate social, emotional, and behavioural learning. Through School Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB), Respectful Relationships, Open Parachute, and eSmart, students are equipped with the skills to build resilience, form positive relationships, make safe choices, and thrive both at school and beyond.
