Acting Principal’s Message (Week 6)

Welcome to Week 6. Please take a moment to read our latest school update below

From the Acting Principal

As we move into the final week of autumn, there is no doubt that the signs of winter are beginning to appear. Despite the cooler mornings and wetter days, learning across our wonderful school remains focused, energised and engaging.

Today marks the launch of our new school newsletter format. Behind the scenes, our team has been developing a template that we believe will strengthen and consolidate communication across the school. Our previous format of alternating between a whole-school and campus newsletter has now been replaced with a combined template, providing our community with a seamless opportunity to access all newsletter content in one place.

Our new platform also provides greater scope to include multimedia elements such as photos and videos, which we look forward to exploring further into the future. We appreciate your patience as we work through any teething issues that may arise and, once again, we hope you find this new format more user-friendly and engaging.

National Reconciliation Week

At Woady Yaloak Primary School, we acknowledge and support the theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026, All In. This year’s theme is a powerful reminder that reconciliation requires the commitment and actions of all Australians, every day.

All In highlights that reconciliation is not something we can observe from the sidelines. It calls on each of us to actively contribute towards meaningful change and to work together to build stronger relationships, understanding and respect between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider community.

The theme also recognises that the responsibility for advancing reconciliation and supporting the rights of First Nations peoples should not rest solely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. True reconciliation requires all Australians to listen, learn, reflect and take action.

Reconciliation will not happen on its own. It will only be achieved when we all play a part in creating a more inclusive, respectful and united future. As we begin National Reconciliation Week, it is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Throughout this week, students across all campuses will be engaging in educational activities centred around the theme All In. Keep an eye on our communication channels to see examples of this learning and reflection in action.

Please mark in your diaries that next Friday is a student free day. Our staff will be working at the Smythesdale Campus, completing professional development focusing on in Cultural Perspectives in Education Training (CPIE).

The purpose of CPIE is to:

  • Increase understanding of Koorie culture and history

  • Build culturally safe learning environments

  • Lay a strong foundation for inclusive and reflective practices across the school community.

Please check out the photo gallery below from the successful combined Campus Captain Forum facilitated by our leadership team last week at Snake Valley. We certainly have some exceptional student leaders across our school, who have implemented wonderful ideas and initiatives throughout 2026.

Once again, I hope you find our new newsletter formate engaging. Have a great week.

Kind regards

Eamon
