Woady Yaloak Primary School Weekly Bulletin, Friday 29th May ICT Helpdesk Link- https://woadyyaloakprimaryschool.freshdesk.com/auth/google_login
Acting Principal’s Update
This week’s bulletin is shorter than usual, as I was in Melbourne yesterday attending the Victorian Principals Conference at the Melbourne Convention Centre, and will be spending today with Jacqui and Chris completing my final day of EMU Intervention training at Monash University in Clayton. With Stephen attending the forum today, Jamie is the contact person if required.
CPIE TRAINING
The Cultural Perspectives in Education (CPIE) training will be held next Friday at the Smythesdale Campus.
This professional learning supports staff to deepen their understanding of cultural perspectives and strengthen culturally responsive practice across our school. The session is designed to further enhance inclusive, respectful and supportive learning environments that positively impact student wellbeing, engagement and achievement. CPIE aligns with the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes, particularly the priority of ‘Positive Climate for Learning’.
This training is an important opportunity for staff across Woady Yaloak Primary School to engage in shared learning and continue building consistent, culturally responsive practice across all campuses.
I would like to thank Lauren for coordinating this session for us all. Morning tea and lunch will be provided.
PRINCIPAL FORUM
The conference theme, “Leading Together for Excellence and Equity,” focuses on strengthening collective leadership across the system to improve outcomes for all students. It highlights the importance of collaboration, evidence-informed practice, and shared responsibility in driving excellence and equity in schools within a rapidly changing educational landscape.
The keynote program features leading voices in education, leadership and performance, including Dr Nathaniel Swain, Professor Simon Breakspear, Lisa Alexander and Carl Hendrick. Together, they bring expertise spanning the science of learning, high-impact teaching and curriculum design, elite performance and team culture, and evidence-informed school improvement. Across their presentations, they will explore how schools can strengthen teaching practice, build high-performing teams, and apply research and practice to improve student outcomes in a complex and evolving educational context.
Stephen and I have also registered for various workshops, where I am sure we will bring our learning back to the leadership team and wider staff body.
I hope everyone has a great!

Education State Updates
Reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases
Some areas in regional northern Victoria are experiencing a longer mosquito season this year due to recent flooding.
Mosquito bites can spread illnesses such as Japanese encephalitis. To help protect Victorians over the coming months, more people will be eligible for a free Japanese encephalitis vaccination.
Please share this article with your staff, and use template text for parents and carers, to let them know about:
-
free Japanese encephalitis vaccines for eligible Victorians
-
how they can help prevent mosquito bites.
Free Japanese encephalitis vaccines
Japanese encephalitis virus is a rare but potentially serious infection. Free vaccination is available for:
-
people aged 2 months or older who live or work in eligible high-risk local government areas in Victoria
-
until Friday 31 July 2026, people who plan to visit high-risk areas in Victoria or interstate for outdoor recreation.
For more information, including lists of high-risk areas, refer to the Department of Health’s Japanese encephalitis webpage.
How to help prevent mosquito bites
To help protect against mosquito bites, students and staff can:
-
cover up as much as possible with long, loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing
-
use mosquito repellent that contains picaridin or DEET on all exposed skin
-
limit outdoor activity if lots of mosquitoes are active.
Where possible, schools can also reduce the risk of mosquito bites by:
-
removing any stagnant water to reduce mosquito breeding
-
sealing any rainwater tanks or water-storage devices
-
preventing mosquitoes from entering school buildings by:
-
repairing holes in flyscreens
-
using knockdown sprays or electronic zappers
-
-
cleaning guttering and storm water pits
-
if camping, ensuring tents are properly fitted with mosquito netting.
When you notice a lot of mosquito activity, close windows and doors that do not have flyscreens, and use air purifiers. When the mosquito activity is reduced, consider re-opening doors and windows.
Staff or students who are worried about their health should visit their doctor or phone Nurse-on-Call: 1300 606 024 (available 24 hours).
