Welcome to Week 6. Please take a moment to read about the great learning and activities taking place at the Smythesdale Campus.
From the Campus Head
As we reach the halfway point of the term, the chilly mornings and dark evenings means winter is on our doorstep. Despite the colder weather, it has been a busy and productive few weeks at Smythesdale. Our teachers and students have been working incredibly hard to complete assessments and prepare for Semester One reports. This is an important time in the school year, and we encourage all families to continue supporting and motivating their children to do their very best.
Last week, we also took the opportunity to celebrate our incredible Education Support Officer (ESO) team. Their ongoing commitment, care and support play a vital role in ensuring all students are able to learn, grow and thrive. We are incredibly grateful for the positive impact they make across our school community each and every day. In addition, we celebrated Education Week, showcasing the many outstanding programs, opportunities and values that make Woady such a special place. It was wonderful to highlight the strengths of our school and the way we continue to live out our core values of Excellence, Respect and Responsibility.
This week, we also acknowledge National Reconciliation Week 2026. The week provides an opportunity for staff and students to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and achievements. This year’s theme, All In, encourages us all to reflect on how we can contribute to meaningful reconciliation and continue building a more inclusive and respectful community.
Finally, we would like to thank our parents and wider school community for your ongoing support. Whether it is attending assemblies, supporting school events or encouraging learning at home, your involvement makes a real difference. We truly value your partnership in supporting our students and our school.
KOORIE CLUB UPDATE
Term 2 Koorie Club saw us create some wonderful paintings to be displayed across our four campuses. With the guidance of Jo and Daen, students used what they could see in nature at the Ross Creek campus to create their paintings. Indigenous symbols were then added for the final touches. Students were also given the opportunity to paint some stamped salt-dough ornaments that they were then able to take home as a memento. A big thank you to Daen and Jo for their assistance with paintings, and Chloe for staying throughout the whole day. Keep an eye out for the artwork displays at your campus/es.

LDSSA WINTER SPORTS – Smythesdale Recreation Reserve
Last Friday, our students had a fantastic time at the LDSSA Winter Sports, held at the newly renovated Smythesdale Recreation Reserve. It was a wonderful day, with a great atmosphere and an excellent opportunity to come together as a wider school community.
We extend our sincere thanks to the organising staff and the entire LDSSA team for their efforts in coordinating such a successful event. The day ran smoothly, and the positive spirit across all schools was evident, complemented by perfect weather.
As the LDSSA concludes its joint events for this year, we look forward to continuing our involvement in division activities and future opportunities as they arise. Well done to all students for their participation, teamwork and sportsmanship—it was fantastic to see.
CASUAL CLOTHES DAY- THURSDAY 4th JUNE
On Thursday 4th June we will be holding our casual clothes day at the campus. This month’s casual clothes day fundraiser will be donated to Motor Neuron Disease (MND). On this day we ask all students to wear blue and bring in a gold coin donation.
Captains Chat
In Week 4 the Year 4, 5, 6 classroom had Winter Sports at the Smythesdale Rec Reserve. This is where you could participate in soccer, football, netball or indoor games. We had lots of fun, as we shared at assembly. The Captains also went to Snake Valley last week for a Captain’s Catch Up meeting where we talked about what we have done and what we plan on doing later in the year. We shared about our silent ball tournament and planned for what is next. We would also like to say amazing work to everyone with the assessments this week and we love all the effort put in. Lastly, we had an amazing day last week to celebrate the E.S for all the work they do for our school. Thank you Wendy, Liz, Erin, Tamara, Sarah and Sharon.
