Welcome to Week 6. Please take a moment to read about the great learning and activities taking place at the Ross Creek Campus.
From the Campus Head
As we reach the halfway point of the term, the chill of winter is certainly starting to settle in across our campuses. Despite the colder weather, it has been a busy and productive few weeks at Woady. Our dedicated teachers and students have been working incredibly hard to complete assessments and prepare for Semester One reports. This is an important time in the school year, and we encourage all families to continue supporting and motivating their children to do their very best.
Last week, we also took the opportunity to celebrate our incredible Education Support Officer (ESO) team. Their ongoing commitment, care and support play a vital role in ensuring all students are able to learn, grow and thrive. We are incredibly grateful for the positive impact they make across our school each and every day. In addition, we celebrated Education Week, showcasing the many outstanding programs, opportunities and values that make Woady such a special place. It was wonderful to highlight the strengths of our school and the way we live out our core values of Excellence, Respect and Responsibility.
We would also like to extend a warm welcome to our new specialist teacher, Mrs Julia Walker, who joins us in place of Mrs Julie McBride-Vanderkley. We are excited to have her as part of our team and are confident our school community will make her feel very welcome.
Finally, we would like to thank our parent and wider school community for your ongoing support. Whether it’s attending assemblies or supporting school events, your involvement makes a real difference. We truly appreciate your partnership in supporting our students and school.
KOORIE CLUB UPDATE
Term 2 Koorie Club saw us create some wonderful paintings to be displayed across our four campuses. With the guidance of Jo and Daen, students used what they could see in nature at the Ross Creek campus to create their paintings. Indigenous symbols were then added for the final touches. Students were also given the opportunity to paint some stamped salt-dough ornaments that they were then able to take home as a memento. A big thank you to Daen and Jo for their assistance with paintings, and Chloe for staying throughout the whole day. Keep an eye out for the artwork displays at your campus/es.

RIVER DETECTIVES
We are in the beginning stages of developing and implementing a sustainability initiative here at our Ross Creek Campus. We are incredibly lucky to have access to the wetlands and utilise the student friendly spaces within them. I will be leading this program with a selected group of students, with a one-hour-per-week program to be rolled out across the term. This Environmental Science program will also be supported by the River Detectives Program, which aims to connect young people with nature and acts as a Citizen Science initiative, providing real time data about the quality of our water to scientists!
As we are in the early stages of the program, there will be more on this in future, so stay tuned!
In the meantime, I am looking forward to working with students, establishing our mission for the wetlands and the future of our surrounding landscape here at Ross Creek.

LDSSA WINTER SPORTS – Smythesdale Recreation Reserve
Last Friday, our students had a fantastic time at the LDSSA Winter Sports, held at the newly renovated Smythesdale Recreation Reserve. It was a wonderful day, with a great atmosphere and an excellent opportunity to come together as a wider school community.
We extend our sincere thanks to the organising staff and the entire LDSSA team for their efforts in coordinating such a successful event. The day ran smoothly, and the positive spirit across all schools was evident, complemented by perfect weather.
As the LDSSA concludes its joint events for this year, we look forward to continuing our involvement in division activities and future opportunities as they arise. Well done to all students for their participation, teamwork and sportsmanship—it was fantastic to see.
CASUAL CLOTHES DAY- THURSDAY 4th JUNE
On Thursday 4th June we will be holding our casual clothes day at the campus. This month’s casual clothes day fundraiser will be donated to Motor Neuron Disease (MND). On this day we ask all students to wear blue and bring in a gold coin donation.
Captains Chat
Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s Captain Chat!
On the 15th of May, our Grade 4, 5 and 6 students attended Winter Sports. It was a fantastic day, with everyone showing great teamwork and having lots of fun.
Last Wednesday, all Campus Captains travelled to Snake Valley for a meeting, where we shared ideas and discussed plans to further improve our campus.
On the 14th of May, our captains proudly led tours for our 2027 Foundation students. It was a great experience and a wonderful opportunity to showcase our school.
This Friday, some of our Grade 6 students will be competing in Division Soccer. We wish them the best of luck and hope they enjoy the day.
Next Thursday is Casual Clothes Day—don’t forget to bring a gold coin donation.
A reminder that next Friday is a Curriculum Day, followed by the King’s Birthday public holiday on Monday the 8th of June. We hope everyone enjoys the long weekend!
Thanks for tuning in to this week’s Captain Chat!
